Measured at approximately 4" X 3"(diameter) cylindrical and channeled to maximize surface area. This sponge filter is ideal for smaller tank under 10 Gallons of size. However, if your filtration demand is not high (such as a heavily planted tank), you can use this in a larger tank. You CAN use this in a smaller setting, but since a larger size sponge will take up more space. In a smaller tank, that means You will have less space for other inhabitant. Can be set up with a In-line Air pump OR with an adapted power head. Power head setup can be used as a current maker, with this sponge filter, it becomes a powerful filter. For air pump setup, there is a air tube connector built in at the center of the sponge. All you need to do is connect your regular air tube to it, and that is it. Heavy base helps set the filter to the bottom of your tank. It might still floats when you first put this filter in water, in this case, all you need to do is squeeze the sponge to soak in the water and forced the remaining air out. Good quality with low price. I know there are "name brand" out there that sells for a much higher price. I personally sample test every product that I sell.
