Description: 10 Bound Volumes of The Fortnightly Review. The Fortnightly Review featured topics of general interest in Politics, Literature, Philosophy, Science, and Art. Some of the contributors include: Kipling, Swinburn, Count Leo Tolstoi, Alfred Wallace, Thomas Hardy, Oscar Wilde, and H.G Wells. I think these volumes were privately bound in 1896. These all have the Spencer Family Crest on the spine, and 4 volumes have Earl Spencer's crest inside. Lady Diana, Princess of Wales's brother is the current Earl Spencer, and Diana grew up at Althrop House. Also included is an inscription written on Althrop House headed paper. Which reads: Fortnightly Review 1899Taken for -----? For BirthdayNovember 1902. 1890 Vol 1+21891 Vol 1+2 Both have a red crest inside. Features Oscar Wilde's preface to the picture of Dorian Grey.1893 Vol 2 Has white crest inside1894 Vol 1+2 front board detached on both. Board is present on both.1895 Vol 1+2 Back board detached but present on vol21896 Vol 2All maps and pull outs are present and complete. These are very interesting in their own right , and the added interest of a connection to royalty makes them a unique view on British politics and history. Thank you for looking.I am happy to provide more pictures.
