Description: thanksforlooking@danmagpie'sstampsA VERY SHARP 3rd WATERMARK 10/- GREY & PALE-ANILINE-PINK KANGAROO: "KANGAROO'S EAR AT RIGHT BROKEN" - PLATE POSITION R47 - 2021ACSC 48(V)va - [CTO NO GUM & "OS"] - 2021CVAPPROX $400 LOVELY PALE ANILINE COLOUR The 3rd Watermark 10/- Kangaroo was printed in March 1916 by J.B. COOKE to May 1918, and then by T.S. HARRISON until the Small Multiple Watermark version was introduced in early 1929. The 3rd Watermark stamp was first issued on 5 February 1917. They were used as the 'make-up' for higher telegram, parcel and bulk postage charges. There were nine printings, comprising two by JOHN COOKE (240,000) and seven by THOMAS HARRISON (1,116,000). Of these combined, a total of 33,720 were spoilt leaving a total of 1,322,280 3rd Watermark 10/- stamps on issue. This very pretty marsupial is listed by THE AUSTRALIAN COMMONWEALTH SPECIALISTS' CATALOGUE "KANGAROOS” 2021 as: ACSC 48(V)va: "KANGAROO'S EAR AT RIGHT BROKEN" PLATE POSITION R47 CV$850 (for NON CTO/OS) As you can see, this one carries lovely colour with BROKEN EAR nicely clear of the perforations and postmark. This one also carries those 'fluffy' perforations that are quite typical of the softer papers and worn perforating machines of the later printings. A lovely addition to that 3rd Watermark variety collection, this BROKEN EAR is just beautiful with lots of colour coming through to the back. BUY WITH CONFIDENCE. MONEY BACK GUARANTEE (See Policy).
