Description: Handcrafted from canvas, rope and wood, this elegant vintage frigate model was made in Spain in the 1950s. The vessel features unique details such as string ringings, spare boats, hanging netting and anchors. The billowing sails are accompanied by red flags and the bow features the head and neck of a large dragon. The entire piece bears a hand painted finish with the body of the ship painted black and gold details on either side of the ship. This naval sailboat sits on an integral wooden base decorated with a small plaque which reads “Fragata Española Ano 1780.” As a piece of maritime art history, this model is in excellent condition and is an especially great find for sailors or other seafaring enthusiasts. HISTORY This elegant replica of an 18th-century Spanish frigate warship is one of the naval fleet that fought in the battle of Cape St. Vincent just off the southern coast of Portugal on 16 January 1780 during the American Revolutionary War. Evidence also suggests that this event was one of the opening battles of the Anglo-Spanish War.
