Description: I have to clear some space on my shelves, so I need to part with some of my collection. From May 2011 to August 2012, Dragon released their 1:144 X-Planes Series of experimental and secret planes. This boundary-shattering craft was naturally the first to be released. Now you can have two of these groundbreaking icons in a convenient size for displaying on your desk or shelf. In fact, it would be appropriate for these highly detailed and fully finished diecast collectibles of the first supersonic aircraft to be the start of a string of these X-Planes to show a timeline of man’s quest for speed. There are a handful of listings for this set on eBay (from all over), but as a Top Rated Plus US Seller, I have this in stock and can reliably ship this to you very quickly. Here is what I have found online about this particular product: The dragon-models.com site no longer shows any of the Dragon Wings products for some reason. From other sources, I found the following information about the aircraft and models: Features: - Fully detailed 1/144 Bell X-1 - Two complete X-1 replicas: one standard and the other with transparent fuselage showing off "interior" of X-1 - Stylish metal stand included - Accurate engraved panel lines - Historically accurate markings - Pre-assembled The X-1, built by Bell, was the first of the highly secretive American “X-planes” that tested out new technologies. Indeed, the X-1 was the very first aircraft to break the sound barrier in level flight. Development started in 1945, and it was inspired by the shape of a Browning .50-cal machine gun round that was known to be stable in supersonic flight. Essentially, the Bell X-1 was a bullet with wings, propelled by a four-chamber rocket engine. The first supersonic test flight occurred on October 14, 1947 with Captain Chuck Yeager at the controls, and he achieved a speed of Mach 1.06 (1,299km/h) in X-1-1 (serial number 46-062), a plane that he had christened “Glamorous Glennis” after his wife’s name. The final flight of this Bell X-1 took place on October 23, 1951 and this ground- and sound-breaking aircraft is now on display at the National Air and Space Museum in Washington D.C. Dragon is offering a fine 1/144 scale model of the Bell X-1 as part of its Warbirds aircraft collection. The set features two complete X-1 aircraft models. The first is a standard replica of this supersonic craft, while the second has a transparent fuselage that shows off the “innards” of the unique X-1. Both fully built-up and finely painted models are masterfully recreated in miniature. They also come with a sleek display stand made of metal that allows both models to be displayed “flying” together. This is an impressive set, and with two models and the stand included, it offers unbeatable value! Wikipedia has a page that provides additional background, great photos and details of the Bell X-1 and her place in history. These two beauties are completely painted and assembled and ready for immediate display. One has the transparent fuselage to show some of the internal components. The two models are carefully cradled in a perfectly shaped plastic insert packed in a colorful box about 6.5” x 6” x 2.5”. As you can see from the pictures, the box is in pristine shape and still sealed with a couple of tape strips, so I consider it factory sealed and absolutely gift-ready. This item contains two diecast models of the world’s first supersonic aircraft that have been painstakingly painted and finished, along with a unique dual display stand. I use eBay Managed Payments, but I no longer ship internationally. Auction winner pays the winning bid and for a limited time, I am offering this item with $5 Flat Rate Shipping in the US! No reserve and a low starting bid. Check out my other great auctions and listings for combined shipping. Good luck! Those familiar with my listings can tell that I really enjoy these products and the modeling hobby. I like to provide more than just the bare facts about the items, trying to lead you into discovering more about the subjects and optimizing your builds (if that is your goal). I started out picking up models that I was interested in, with the eye toward building them when I had time. Always a bargain-hunter, I accumulated many more than I can build, so I found myself in a Collector status (sounds nicer than a hoarder). As I am sure you have noticed, my items are almost always sealed and in mint condition (I call them Gift-Ready), since I only open them when I am ready to build them. Now I enjoy making these products available to my fellow modelers; both Builders and Collectors. For the Builders, there are probably better (at least cheaper) ways to add to your project lists than buying from me, but you know you are getting top quality. For Collectors, my goal is to save you a few bucks over the competition for the same item in factory sealed and collectible (or resellable) condition.
