A ripe Persimmon has a taste like caramel with hints of tangerine and heavy cream. The texture is like dense rich custard. The American Persimmon is an ornamental tree with intensely green leathery leaves that turn purple in Fall. Fruit is ripe when it turns wrinkled and looks mushy. Like many fruit trees they require a male and female tree to produce fruit.
