BASEBALL SUPERSTARS Series 2 #15 - RON SANTO ~ Chicago Cubs ~ A member of the National Baseball Hall of Fame (HOF) ~ Super-size card (3-3/4" by 5-3/4") issued in 1984 by TCMA, Ltd. ~ This card is from an interesting and historically significant commemorative set by The Card Memorabilia Associates, Limited (TCMA). Commemorating thirty-three (33) of the greatest baseball players of the forties, fifties and sixties - a bit before and a bit after in a few cases - it was printed in natural color and in larger-than-standard format. Collectors frequently designate this card as being from "Series 2" - a reference to TCMA 20-card set of similar design and physical dimensions issued in 1982. Cards from the '84 set, however, have proven to be much more elusive than their '82 brethren. The card's front features the popular "pure card" style (with no extraneous design or even player identification) while the back includes a headshot of the player - quite an innovation for its day. An extensive player biography and single line of lifetime player statistics complete an outstanding design which, if had been developed by the Exhibit Supply Company in its hey day, might have made exhibits the baseball card of choice.
