Description: This 2 Reales cob is one of the most spectacular silver Spanish Colonial cobs that ever came out of the 1992 find from "the Swamp Hoard." These cobs were listed by date in the Ponterio & Associates auction catalogue of approximately 1994! This coin was NOT in the auction but was from the same, well known hoard. It came out of the Caribbean from a large, true pirate cache, and was THE source for most early fractional high grade cobs from only Lima and Potosi between 1652 and 1692. There were no cobs dated after 1692 in this hoard of about 2500 coins. It contained primarily only 1 and 2 reales from this period with only a handful of 4 reales. This coin is dated by the die variety since there is no actual date. The flan is HUGE weighing in at a whopping 7.00 grams... a full 1/4 gram over the proscribed regulated weight! Although not apparent in these scans, the coin has a virtually unblemished surface with lustre. There is a small surface mark on the obverse crown from the excavating tool when recovered. A Spectacularly clear "L" for Lima and almost the full name "LIMA" in the upper right hand border inscription on the obverse. Abundantly clear Assayer's mark "V" on both the obverse AND reverse (to the right of the cross.) There is a flat spot in the obverse strike where the denomination would be, but this is more than compensated by the clear "2" above the cross on the reverse. With a Certificate of Authenticity. As always, shipping by this seller is gratis/free. We always offer the right to return all coins within 30 days. Our real product is your satisfaction. Kindly read “about us” in our eBay store.
