Description: 1700s Interesting European Silver Hand Engraved Box Presented is an interesting continental European silver box from the 1700s. This box is likely of French origin, but we aren't sure. The box is beautifully hand engraved with reeded stripes and bright cut designs. The front of the box has a finely engraved design of a basket of flowers, while the underside is engraved with a large flower. The underside of the box is monogrammed JVL. The interior has a rich gold wash. The lid of the box is missing something, like a stone or cameo or plaque. The box is in good overall condition. The box has had something removed from the lid, a stone or cameo or watch or something of the sort, but something else could be put in its place. The lid is double layered, so the hole does not go all the way through the lid, there is still a layer of silver in place. There is a minor ding to one end of the lid. Otherwise there are no splits, no monogram removals, and no repairs. The box has three hallmarks on the lip of the rim, in the front, which we unfortunately do not recognize. The box is guaranteed at least 850 purity silver. The box measures about 3 1/8 by 1 5/8 by 1 1/8 inches, LxWxH. The box weighs 63 grams or 2.2 regular ounces. -jm Powered by SixBit's eCommerce Solution
