Description: Used w/out original box is in great condition given it's age - a 1:72 diecast model MATCHBOX YESTERYEAR - FOWLERS 'BIG LION' SHOWMAN STEAM ENGINE - "LESNEYS MODERN AMSUSEMENTS" - 1958 - MAROON/CREAM Made in England Lesney Products' Matchbox Series were a range of small diecast vehicles that appeared in 1953, and were one of the classic ranges of "playground, carpet, garden and sandpit" toys. With no particular pretence to use a common scale, the Matchbox toys were individually sized to fit a matchbox and thus were sold in matchbox-styled packaging. Even though these were very much marketed as simple toys rather than models, the level of detailing specific to the original vehicle was impressive. The earliest-released models are particularly revered for their charm and attractiveness. The Y-9-A was a 1924 Fowler 'Big Lion' Showman's Engine. This was issued in 1958. 1:72, discontinued in 1967. Never been displayed & in near new condition. Regrettably no box available. It remains as I purchased myself.
