Description: 1743 Holy Bible printed by Christopher Saur in Germantown Pennsylvania. This is the second Bible in any language printed in America, the first German Bible printed in America, and the first European language Bible printed in America. These first editions are rare in any condition and make magnificent additions to a rare Bible or book collection! This copy is in a unique original binding. They bound this one with three bands, rather than four or five. It looks like it used to have clasps, but the clasps as well as receiving ends have been removed at some point leaving indents in the covers where they used to be. Some foxing, spots, and paper imperfections throughout (not uncommon for this printing given the age and quality of materials in early America). Missing general title page, but New Testament title page is present. General title page in facsimile is laid in, but not attached. The color difference in the paper is obviously noticable due to the age difference. It would be better to leave this facsimile title page un-attached, on the chance that an original title page may be found at some point to complete this copy. Some of the last pages are tattered, but it appears to be textually complete to the end. I checked through each page to confirm there are none missing. The original hinges are still quite strong. Even though the binding shows some wear, it's remains a very attractive Bible and looks appropriate for the time period. It's amazing to find one of these extremely rare Bibles in this good of condition! Measures about 10.25" x 8" and just under 4.25" thick. Please review pictures for a better idea of the condition. I carefully package all of my books to ensure that they remain safe during shipping. Check out my other book and Bible listings! I may have more like this one that you would be interested in!
