Description: A piece of history in your hands. This is an antique German hymnal book from the 1700s published in Marburg and Frankfurt containing over 700 hymnals and prayers. This is still in the original binding and has that beautiful old time-y text and printing style. This is truly a special find and a perfect gift for any occasion. Ambrosii Lobwasser was a German humanist in the 1500s whose work became the standard for all psalm books in German speaking countries. This book originally had clasps which are now missing but you can see the partial metal and attachment points still on the edge of the panels. The pages are gilded on all sides though it is significantly diminished and darkened over the last 200+ years. The front hinge is quite weak and should be treated with caution though no loose pages are detected. The leather is cracked along the spine and there is significant shelfwear around the edges of the panels. The book has expanded so that it no longer lays completely shut. There is a previous owner signature on the front endpaper. Pages are all internally toned and there are some stains here and there.
