Description: FIRST PICTURE IS THE CORRECT COLOR This 1800s overshot coverlet is rare. It has been hand loomed and hand dyed. The blue color for the ground is not common. It is an excetionally large size, made of three panels. It is shown on a king size bed but could also be used on a queen bed. The blue and magenta yarn is wool and the ground is linen or a linen cotton blend. This was sourced in western North Carolina from a farming family homestead. This was surely a prized family heirloom as evidenced by the condition and care it was given. It measures 111” x 95.5”. This is a wonderful piece of American Textile history. The yarn could also have been spun by hand. The side edges are raw and the top and bottom edges are hemmed. It's in very good condition considering the age. There are some patches on the back as shown and a few small holes. There is a little bit of fading. It's a very nice color combination - the pictures make the blue ground look lighter than it is. The first picture is the correct color. These patterns were often developed by families and passed down and given to relatives like a recipe would be.
