Description: Original Antique Lithograph Hand-colored with watercolor paints / gouache. ( painted with blue , red , green , yellow , white , etc. ) Two sweet children, a girl and a boy , pause at a roadside shrine. The older girl hugs and comforts her younger brother, who has an expression on his little face which seems both sadness and peace. Perhaps they are orphans , and the little boy is thinking of his lost mother. His sister looks steadily at the shrine, with an expression of both hope and reverence. This is a European landscape. Near the center-left can be seen the distant town to which they are traveling to or from. These young siblings are outfitted for travel ; the girl has a bundle slung over her shoulder, the little boy is carrying a handled basket with his few belongings, or perhaps some food. On the ground is another small bundle and a pottery water jug , with a few white flowers on either side. No one else is around. These children seem to be alone in the world. At the right, on a hill, tower the ruins of a castle , seeming to look on in stony silence. This hand-colored lithograph is old ; circa late 1800s. The lithograph print was long-ago attached to a mat. The gold colored frame is modern. Under glass, and with wire hanger. Frame size is 11 5/8" x 13 1/8" A beautiful and moving scene.
