Small segment of leather missing from head of spine. End papers missing. Wanting frontispiece. Front title page is moderately toned, does not affect text. Text block in nice condition, bright and free of marginalia. Marbled end papers in rear are soiled, but intact. Rear board is desiccated, joints dry and cracking. Gilt work along edges of board still present, but faded. Please see photos. Second edition of Leigh Hunt’s first book of poetry written when he was seventeen years of age. Hunt was a an English critic, essayist and poet. He confounded The Examiner, a leading intellectual journal expounding radical principles. He was the center of the Hempstead-based group that included William Hazlitt and Charles Lamb, known as the “Hunt Circle” Hunt also introduced John Keats, Percy Bysshe Shelley, Robert Browning and Alfred Lord Tennyson to the public.
