Description: I have here for sale a SCARCE lovely complete set of 6 volumes of De Mensch, zoo als hij voorkomt op den bekenden aardbol by MARTINUS STUART. Each volume has a hand coloured title vignette and across the volumes there are 42 hand coloured plates, depicting ethnic types from i.a. Tahiti, Hawaii, Easter Island, Australia, Alaska, Canada, Greenland, Mexico, Africa, Egypt, Morocco, etc. ( all present and complete) plus 2 fold out plates depicting skulls in volume 1. Important ethnological work by Martinus Stuart "The first Dutch treatise on geographical anthropology [...] printed in coloru, finished by hand." [...]. Published between 1802 & 1807 by JOHANNES ALLART, Amsterdam. Text is in Dutch. Uniformly bound - quarter bound over marbled boards. Sunned spines. Gilt title lettering on the spines. Marbled endpapers. Half title pages. Generally pages are clean and bright across the volumes, with the exceptions of volumes 5 & 6, where there is scattered foxing and age soiling through the books and a tear on the edge of a couple of pages. Front board of volume 1 hanging on by a thread. These books are on good + condition, they remain tightly bound with no loose or missing pages 234; 238; 257; 267; 277; 301pp 25cm x 16cm. Postage and packing : I know that you will be looking forward to receiving your order, each book is carefully wrapped in packing paper ( I have changed from bubble wrap to try and reduce my use of plastic) and posted in a Jiffy bag if size permitting, if not it is double wrapped in corrugated cardboard, brown paper and then securely taped. To keep the cost of the postage down to the most economical level per book, you may consider buying more than 1 item from my eBay account. You can then request a combined postage cost and I will combine the items into the fewest parcels as possible - saving you money :) My main posting days are Monday and Thursday ie.
