First edition of the first chemical dictionary to be published after the discoveries of Lavoisier. Charles-Louis Cadet de Gassicourt (23 January 1769 - 21 November 1821) was a scientist most noteworthy for his part in the diffusion and popularization of the New Chemistry rather than for any specific discovery. Dictionnaire de chimie replaced the older chemical dictionary of Macquer and clearly elucidated the revolutionary changes that had occurred in chemistry and in chemical nomenclature.
