Description: 1807 BRONZE MEDALLION HUDSON RIVER DISCOVER, STEAM NAVIGATION WHITEHEAD-HOAG This listing is for a bronze medal/medallion marked on edge: WHITEHEAD & HOAG. One side commemorates “First Use of Steam in Navigations on the Hudson River 1807” and both sides are signed E. FUCHS. One side features 3 seated women (one holding a sword, one holding a steamship, and one holding a piece of paper) and behind them is a wreath with a portrait image of ROBERT FULTON 1785-1815. In the background is a distant image of the steamship in the Hudson River and New York building skyline. The opposite side border lettering reads: “ Discovery of Hudson River by Henry Hudson A.D. MDCIX; The American Numismatic Society; Hudson-Fulton Celebration Comm.” With border image of a ship with lettering: “Halve Maene.” In the center is an image of Henry Hudson and sailors on the Halve Maene hoisting an item onto the ship. The medal/medallion has some edge wear, images & lettering are crisp and clear (see photos), and has a 2-1/2" diameter. When packed SECURELY for shipping, the weight is 8 ounces.
