With 15 (including the frontispiece) out of the 14 plates present ( lacking WARWICK CASTLE). This FIRST EDITION was published in 1810 by W.H.WYATT, London. Although Brewer began his career as a novelist, he began writing travelogues, with this work being the first in his new career. He enjoyed the dual career as a novelist and then as a topographer who wrote travelogues as well. This work ranges from Windsor Castle and other noteworthy English castles, to Edinburgh Castle and other noteworthy Scottish Castles as well as the Escorial in Spain, the Pantheon in Paris, the summer residence of the Pope and Corsen Bhang in Delhi. Brewer accompanies these sections with illustrative plates and lively narrative incorporating architectural facts and biographical sketches of important persons relative to each structure. Bound in leather boards - these are worn and front board is pulling. Spine covering is missing. Marbled endpapers. Foxing throughout, sometimes heavy. Slight musty smell. Name to the front fly-leaf. Several of the top page corners have are bent. It remains tightly bound with no loose pages viii, 323pp 27cm x 23 cm Price reflective of condition.
