Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE Brigadier General Winfield Scott was a key figure in the American victory at the Battle of Chippewa and in the Niagara Campaign of 1814 during the War of 1812: Battle of Chippewa On July 5, 1814, Scott led American troops against the British at the Battle of Chippewa, a major American invasion of Canada. Scott's men were dressed in gray coats, which led the British to believe they were poorly-trained militia. However, Scott's men fought well under fire, and the Americans won the battle. The battle forced the British to retreat to Fort George, and the resulting maneuvers led to the Battle of Lundy's Lane. Niagara Campaign The Niagara Campaign was a series of failed attempts by the British to evict the Americans from Canadian soil. In November, the Americans destroyed Fort Erie and retreated after news of the Treaty of Ghent reached the area. Scott was promoted to brigadier general on March 8, 1814. He led the Buffalo Camp during the spring of 1814, where he drilled his men, standardized orders, and purged incompetent officers. Shipped USPS Ground Services Fully Insured.
