Description: Nice gently circulated 1817 retaining much detail on the devices. Clear and full breastline, knot and clasp still clearly visible, cap and stars in nice preservation. Eagle maintains most all feathers with little wear. Lines and stripes in shield clear and separated. Face seems a bit flat, but we feel that this part of the obverse didn't receive a full strike due to the shattered die. Same with the reverse on the eagle's left lower wing, and both are just the result of the shattered die since the these wear-patterns are not consistent with typical Capped Bust wear patterns, and along with the die crack from the "18" in the date, up through the lower curls to stars 12 and 11. This is evidence that this coin is a Late Die State (LDS) suggesting one of the last ones struck with these dies. Interesting coin! It is with our best and honest opinion that the condition of this coin is Very Choice Very Fine. VERY IMPORTANT: We honestly try to do our very best in representing and describing the condition of any coin we sell for your benefit, but since grading is first and foremost simply a subjective opinion by an individual and nothing more, we can only guarantee authenticity and variety, and you shouldn’t necessarily adopt our opinion of any grade as what you or any other grader would assign. It is widely known that grading companies can, and do misgrade coins, and coins are constantly and actively broken out only to be sent in again for the higher grade they may be entitled to. For these reasons, we cannot assume responsibility or liability for any coin later graded differently that we sold raw, as is with our opinion. It is imperative that you use your own numismatic expertise and knowledge. In your purchasing this coin, please understand that we are selling this coin with no contingency whatsoever on the opinion or grade result of any other third-party grader. Photos too, are taken to best represent the coin being sold, but please understand that camera angle and lighting can vary the color and surface of the coin in the photo. When needed and feasible, we will include multiple angles to address such variances when we see that significant differences are occurring such as different angles to see surface or color, which may not represent both in one photo. We also like to provide photos of at least some of the diagnostics for varieties. We offer FREE shipping and FREE 30-day returns! We have made purchasing from us RISK FREE for your satisfaction, therefore we try our best to represent our coins the best we can so as not to cause you or us any extra out-of-pocket costs, or wasted time. We pay to get it to you, and we pay for you to send it back if you don’t like it…and you WILL get a FULL refund as long as you send it back in the same condition, and in the same holder, capsule or flip in which you received it in. PLEASE DO NOT attempt to clean, or otherwise alter this or any coin. With this said, we would greatly appreciate that if you do return a coin for ANY reason, we would truly appreciate you choosing “Just Did Not Like”, or “Changed My Mind”. You WILL receive a FREE return label and a FULL refund. We just think that “Does not match description or photo” is not at all a good choice for coins, and sounds offensive when we are trying our best to represent them as closely as possible, and it also puts an unnecessary negative strike against our eBay selling score. It serves no purpose when free shipping and returns are offered. We do hope you understand, and we want you to be happy and excited with your purchase.
