"The Fudge Family in Paris" is an 1818 satirical work by Irish poet Thomas Moore. Presented as a series of letters, it humorously critiques British society and politics during the post-Napoleonic era. The narrative follows the Fudge family—Phil Fudge, his son Bob, daughter Biddy, and their Irish tutor Phelim Connor—during their visit to Paris after the Bourbon Restoration. Each character offers a distinct perspective: Phil Fudge writes sycophantic letters to Lord Castlereagh, echoing government propaganda; Bob, a dandy, indulges in Parisian pleasures; Biddy seeks romantic adventures; and Phelim, an Irish revolutionary, provides a critical view of British policies. Through their experiences, Moore satirizes the superficiality of British tourists and critiques the political climate of the time.
