From January to June. Containing various numbers with letters to Henry Hunt, Major Cartwright, to the Electors of Westminster, and others. The weekly political register was founded by Cobbett in 1802, ceasing its publication in 1836, the year after Cobbett's death.Originally sharing Tory views, Cobbett soon started questioning the policies of the government, particularly regarding the national debt, and the class divides. In early nineteenth century England, this was the main newspaper read by the working class. CONDITION In paper covered boards binding. Externally sound with slight shelf wear and edge wear, slight bumping to the head and tail of the spine and minor handling marks to the front and rear boards. Inscribed by a previous owner to the front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. The pages are generally clean with minor faint spotting and the occasional handling mark and offsetting.
