Tooled leather binding, 5.5 x 8.25", 12mo. In fair condition. Boards are desiccated at edges and corners. Joints are abraded with evidence of red-rot. Spine compartments are gilt with decoration though dulled. Spine labels are lacking. Numerical label is laid inside the text block. Splitting at front joint. Head and tail are slightly chipped with minor loss. Front pastedown contains old hand ownership of John L. Gardner and a binders ticket from Copeland and Bradlee Binders of Boston. Front gutter is slightly split. Marbled end papers are bright and vibrant. Numerous old hand notations in the end papers. Offsetting on title page from frontispiece and noticeable tear to the frontispiece at gutter. Text block is lightly toned throughout with light age staining. Free of known marginalia. Binding is tight and intact. Please see photos. This is a nicely bound Georgian era edition of The Life of Cicero by Conyers Middleton.
