Description: On offer: an original (i.e. not a later reproduction) antique print "Harewood House.", Yorkshire. DATE PRINTED: 1829, dated on the print. SIZE: The printed area including titles of the view is approximately 16 x 10.5 cm (6 x 4.25 inches) with a blank back (small). ARTIST/CARTOGRAPHER/ENGRAVER: Drawn by N. Whittock, engraved by J. Rogers, published by I. T. Hinton, 4 Warwick Square, London. Nathaniel Whittock (1791-1860) was Lithographic printer and engraver to the University of Oxford. PROVENANCE: A plate published in "A new and complete history of the county of York" by Thomas Allen, published by I.Hinton, issued in parts 1828-1833. TYPE: Antique plate engraving printed on paper. VERSO: There is nothing printed on the reverse side, which is blank. CONDITION: Good; suitable for framing. Please check the scan for any blemishes prior to making your purchase. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Harewood House is a country house in Harewood near Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. Designed by architects John Carr and Robert Adam, it was built, between 1759 and 1771, for wealthy plantation and slave owner Edwin Lascelles, 1st Baron Harewood. The landscape was designed by Lancelot "Capability" Brown and spans 1,000 acres (400 ha) at Harewood. Still home to the Lascelles family, Harewood House is a member of the Treasure Houses of England, a marketing consortium for ten of the foremost historic homes in the country.
