In a contemporary cloth binding, with gilt to the spine. Dedicated to King George IV, this book comprises a series of thirty-six memoirs concerning prominent figures of the nineteenth century. Collated, complete with thirty-six monochrome portrait plates that accompany each biography, painted by numerous artists. Includes memoirs for figure such as John Jervis, John Julius Angerstein, Lady Georgiana Agar Ellis and George III, among others.Written by Scottish journalist, William Jerdan, whose position as an editor brought him into contact with many distinguished writers. CONDITION In a contemporary cloth binding, with gilt to the spine. Externally, with rubbing to the extremities, notably to the joints. Front hinge is tender. With marks to the boards. internally, generally firmly bound, with the front endpapers loosening but attached. Pages are generally bright and clean, with occasional spots.
