DATE PRINTED: 1832 SIZE: The printed area including titles is approximately 15 x 11.5 cm, 6 x 4.5 inches (small) plus margins. ARTIST/CARTOGRAPHER/ENGRAVER: Engraved by Edward Finden from an original study by Clarkson Stanfield. Clarkson Frederick Stanfield RA (3 December 1793 – 18 May 1867) was a prominent English marine painter; he is often though inaccurately called William Clarkson Stanfield. He was born at Sunderland, the son of James Field Stanfield (1749–1824) an Irish-born author, actor and former seaman. PROVENANCE: Produced for "Landscape Illustrations of the Waverley Novels, with Descriptions of the Views", 2 vols (London: Charles Tilt, 1832) by Sir Walter Scott. TYPE: Antique steel plate engraving printed on paper. VERSO: There is nothing printed on the reverse side, which is blank. CONDITION: Good. Suitable for framing. It meets the North Sea with Fife on the north coast and Lothian on the south.Guy Mannering; or, The Astrologer is the second of the Waverley novels by Walter Scott, published anonymously in 1815. According to an introduction that Scott wrote in 1829, he had originally intended to write a story of the supernatural, but changed his mind soon after starting.
