Description: Hannah More was an English religious writer and philanthropist who wrote multiple plays and poems of an improving nature as well as participating in the Bluestocking movement in London and writing tracts for the deserving poor. Inscribed on title page with “Thos. Layton/N. Orlean April 21st, 1833/to Henry H Hewes/ December 25 1833”. The book is very big, almost 3” high, and contains most of More’s works including poetry, plays, and religious writings. In volume one (pages 1 through 563) are poetry and plays while volume two (pages 1 through 587) contains advice to young women and various religious writings. Nice frontispiece portrait and vignette on title page “vol. I, page 386”.
