Description: Beautiful Copper Coin 1839 AD 1255 AH year 1 - Key Date Egyptian Five Para Ottoman Sultan Abdul Majid For your Egyptian Coin Collection-EGC232 Details Description: A great looking very fine or better copper coin from Egypt. This is a five para from the reign of the Ottoman Sultan Abdul Majid. The coin shows the sultan's tughraon the obverse with the denomination under it. The reverse says Duribah Fi Misr with the number 1above the beh in duribah and the year 1255 AH under it all. The 1 over the beh stands for the 1st year of Abdul Majid's reign, a key date. The year 1255 AH is Abdul Majid's accession to the throne. It is KM-222 measuring approximately 20 mm in diameter and weighing ~6.3 grams. The coin has a plain rim. Coins of such small denomination and small size are usually hard to come by in such a nice grade. They normally were used extensively by the people and were lost or severely abused. Please carefully view scan as it is part and parcel of our description. Date: 1839 AD - 1255 AH year 1 of Abdul Majid's reign. Mint: Egypt. Size and weight: This is a 5 para and is ~202 mm in diameter and weighs ~6.3 grams. References: It is KM #222. Condition: I would grade this coin as a very fine or better with all the details being well preserved. The coin has a nice brown reddish patina and great eye appeal. It has a few bag marks, a crack at the edge of the flan at about 7 O'clock which appears to be original to the making of teh coin. The coin is much better than the scan shows.
