Description: 1840 Braided Hair Large Cent Newcomb-9 Rarity-3 Wonderfully original choice example in Extra Fine. . N-9 is clearly identifiable by the bisecting obverse die crack near star 4 all the way through Liberty's portrait & straight into the opposing rim at star 11. There is slight sinking of the heavily split die towards the northern section on obverse where all 7 stars appear to be much weaker and less filled out than the 6 stars beneath crack This is a very late die state (State D or later) with a heavily lapped reverse die where the dentils are almost non existent in the lower left quadrant of the coin.(Likely caused by the failing obverse) Not many pieces were likely to be struck after this one. Obverse shows a round shallow central mark near ear. Possibly the start of a hole, but not fully pierced. Trivial marks on a beautiful chocolate brown semi glossy surface gives this piece incredibly pleasing eye appeal. Priced accordingly as per minor damage. Overall an acceptable specimen for most quality collectors. FREE SHIPPING IMPORTANT: PLEASE USE IMAGES PROVIDED OF THE EXACT COIN THAT YOU WILL RECEIVE TO DETERMINE CONDITION FOR YOURSELF.
