Each volume features dozens of wonderfully illustrated engraved plates with decorative borders. Three-quarter leather binding with marbled covers and gilt lettering and raised bands on the spine. From the introduction:"In this work will the young student of Christianity see its principles laid down by its heavenly Founder, and applied by him to every phase of human life; they will hear him warning the rich, comforting the suffering and poor, instructing the ignorant, encouraging the lowly, but startling the sinful and the hypocrite. They will listen to the simple and highly poetical parables, in which the Saviour clothed his merciful messages from the throne of love and power, and be softened by his affectionate gentleness; anon they will see him threatening the odburate sinners with the avenging lightnings of an offended Deity.
