Description: Offered is this antique map entitled "Map Exhibiting the Navigable Rivers, the Completed and Proposed Canals and Rail-Roads of Great Britain and Ireland with the Coal Fields, Light Houses, & c." The map is undated but a previous owner has written along the bottom in pencil "From McCullough's Universal Gazetteer, Vol I 1843" and research bears that out. The map was printed by Harper and Brothers of New York and engraved by Charles Copley, also of New York. The map is printed on very thin, almost tissue-like paper. The map is approx. 24 1/2" x 20 3/4". It is in good condition, but is so thin that 10 or so pinholes have developed, as well as some very small holes along some of the folds. It is slightly ragged in places along the edge, especially along the right side where it was apparently detached from the gazetteer. The printing is clear but there is some light spottiness and soiling. The pencil-written text at the bottom of the map could probably be erased if desired although it might be difficult given the thinness of the paper. The map will be shipped rolled up and placed in a tube. Please take a moment to look at some of the other items in my eBay store!
