1856 Pew Deed First Universalist Meeting House Concord NH White Memorial Church

Description: This week I will be listing assorted 19th & 20th century paper and ephemera from an estate in Manchester, New Hampshire. There will be correspondence, documents, postcards, advertising, etc from the Manchester/Concord area and things from other, smaller NH towns - some dating back to the early 1800s. Check my other sales. I will also be offering my usual vintage advertising, documents, letters, stamps, photos, stereoviews, postcards, and other ephemera. I frequent local auctions and estate sales up and down the east coast where I pick up lots of fun old stuff and list almost all of it on Ebay. Check my other auctions for more early ephemera from. All items guaranteed to be vintage and original. DESCRIPTION: Single sheet receipt/deed/proof of ownership for pew No. 53 in the then new First Universalist Meeting House in Concord, NH. The document records that Richard Cilley paid $100 for the pew in July of 1856, the same month the building was finished and dedicated. It is signed by Nathaniel White, Robert Corning, and other leaders of the church. On the back of the sheet it is recorded that on March 26, 1867 Mr. Cilley sold the pew to Nathaniel White. Nathaniel & Armenia White were pillars of the Universalist Society in Concord shortly after it's establishment in 1842. Mr. White was the church's strongest financial supporter during this period. When the new church was built in 1856 at a cost of $20,000, and the expense was expected to be met by the sale of pews, Nathaniel White paid for more than half of them. The pastor at the time, J. H. Moore, was a fervent abolitionist, as was White. When pro-slavery members left the church White offered to pay for the pews they abandoned. In 1885 the church was renamed "White Memorial Church," in memory of Nathaniel and Armenia. A very nice piece of local history! All items guaranteed vintage and authentic - no reproductions or reprints. See my other auctions for another Concord pew deed, more vintage ephemera, and other fun old stuff! CONDITION: Complete and intact with no damage. Displays very nicely. Check all my scans carefully. US SHIPPING OPTIONS: Shipping in the US - $1.00. INTERNATIONAL BUYERS. Please wait for my invoice before sending payment. I can ship this item worldwide in a standard envelope for $2.00. If you want cardboard reinforcers it would become a RIGID package, which would have to go International Package and would be about $20. NOTICE!! International packages valued at $100.00 or more will REQUIRE Priority Mail, insured, which will be expensive - around $46.00. Please wait for my invoice before sending payment. ALSO!! I use Ebay shipping labels. It's the only way I can prove to Ebay that I shipped a package to the proper address if ever there's a dispute. Unfortunately, those labels will always have customs information - including the actual price of the merchandise - clearly printed on them. I realize that customs fees are a concern in the UK and other countries, but you'll just have to figure that into your cost when placing bids. TO ALL BUYERS: If there's a problem, contact me. I'm easy to work with. I may goof things up once in a while, but I've always been able to work out any problems. All items guaranteed to be AS DESCRIBED. Check my feedbacks. Any AS IS sale will will be clearly indicated as such.
