Old pale stain covering most of larger sheet, with some creasing to bottom edge. Handling marks. Slight curvature to mounts. His middle stump is knocked out, and he is hit by the ball in the chest, leg and eye, getting a black eye as a souvenir of his experience. The final caption reads "And Tangsauf thinks that it would be perhaps just as well to give up cricket / it not being a French game & somewhat dangerous to those unskilled in it."Thurlow, of Buckham Hill House, Uckfield, was born in Beverley, Yorkshire, the son of Reverend Chancellor Thurlow. He was educated at the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich, and served in the Royal Horse Artillery, with tours in India and Ireland.
