Description: An original 1861 hand signed “Twenty Five Cents” fractional note issued by “The Bank of the State of South Carolina” in Charleston. This is one of the first notes issued by a Confederate State. It was printed on the back and sometime faces of larger “The Greenville & Columbia Railroad Company” bonds. The notes were issued with out serial numbers. These fractional notes were issued by most institutions due to the coin shortage in both the North and South. The note measures 2 ¾” x 4”. The note will be shipped in a protective sleeve with a dated, hand signed Letter of Authenticity with a photograph of the currency above. All of the artifacts on our site are guaranteed to be original Civil War issue or as stated. Please see our "About Collectors Frame”, below the reviews on the front page, for more information on the framing and artifacts.
