This particular work is based on the medical records and manuscripts kept by the doctor of Louis XIII. Louis XIII was of the House of Bourbon as was reigning monarch of France from 1610-1643, and also the King of Navarre from 1610 to 1620, when Navarre was merged with with French crown. He married Anne of Austria, daughter of Philip III of Spain in 1615 as solidification of the military and political alliance of the two nations.
