The American Merchants Union Express Company was created on November 25, 1868, when the Merchants Union Express Company merged with American Express Company. William George Fargo [1818 1881] was an American pioneering businessman who co-founded the American Express Company and Wells Fargo who also served as the 27th Mayor of Buffalo. This certificate was issued on Dec 26, 1868, certificate #645 for 100 shares at 100.00 per share and is boldly signed by ''William Fargo'' as President, ''J.N. Knapp'' as Secretary and ''A. P. Ross'' as Treasurer in black ink. The signatures are bold and the certificate measures 12.00 x 9.50 inches and is in fine condition. The document is an original stock certificate and contains an authentic hand signed signature of William Fargo.
