Full purple calf bindings. Floral device and gilt lettering to spines between raised bands. The device and ruling blind stamped to covers. All edges gilt. Marbled endpapers. Size: 8vo (22cm x 14.3cm). Total shelf width - approx. 19.5cm.Very Good condition. The spines have sunned (bleached) to all the volumes uniformly. A few covers also have pale lines caused by exposure to the sun. Some rubbing to edges and corners. Binding and hinges solid. Some light scattered foxing and age-toning to title pages and facing leaves, and scattered elsewhere. On the whole a pleasing set, which feels robust and gratifying in the hands. The first seven volumes (present here, with index for the first four years ) were published in consecutive years between 1871 and 1877.
