Description: 1871 Gold Sovereign. Featuring the portrait of younge Queen Victoria on the reverse & the classic George and the Dragon on the opposite face. Designed by William Wyon. Sovereign weight 8 grams. Mount Weight 4.22 grams. Sovereign diameter 22mm Sovereign thickness 1.5mm Sovereign 917 fineness of gold purity the Sovereign is in great condition due being in the pendant mount for most of its life.. Hardly any wear or blemishes. I can not find a mint mark on the Sovereign so minted in the UK opposed to Austrailia. The mount is 4.22grams 9ct gold carrying the hallmarks of "Crown - 375 - shield - date letter e" I think this dates the mount to Birmingham 1904/5 which does fit with family history... private seller not trade & can trace the item back to 1905 but no further.. Genuine item in great condition. please see photos for accurate description of condition.
