Description: ALICE IN WONDERLAND 1876 & THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS 1881 LEWIS CARROLL & JOHN TENNIEL ILLUSTRATOR RARE BLUE LEATHER-BOUND GOLD GILT PAGES Approximate measurements: 7.4" x 5.2" Alice's Adventures in Wonderland with forty two illustrations by John Tenniel, fiftieth thousand publishers Macmillan And Co. 1876. Leather-bound by Sanborski and Suttcliffe and Co, London, England. A rare blue leather bound edition with a gold embossed emblem on front of Alice holding a pig in a bonnet and an outer gold gilt border, the pages also have gold edges. The spine has gold embossed outlines and different characters from the book (i.e. the White Rabbit, the Mad Hatter, the Queen "of Hearts", etc.) along with the year imprinted in gold at the bottom. In good condition with some wear but very good condition for its age. Through the Looking-Glass, and What Alice Found There with Fifty Illustrations by John Tenniel, forty - ninth thousand Macmillan And Co. publishing 1881. Blue leather bound with gold gilt pages and gold embossed outlines, a gold embossing of the Queen is on the front. Same spine as the other book with different characters. The cover page is personalized " For Maudie? from Aunt Aggie 1882" I believe it says Maudie but I'm not certain that is correct. This is a very rare blue leather-bound set from the late 1800's. A wonderful, whimsical story especially for it's time. This beautiful set would make a great addition to any collection. Please make serious inquiries only.
