Description: Beautiful Victorian trade card measuring approximately 5 3/8" x 3 7/8".This is from "Crosman Brothers Wholesale Seed Merchants." The front has a beautiful litho of a girl in a field. "Crosman Bro's" is noted diagonally in the lower left corner. The bottom edge is marked, "Copyright 1887 And Published Crosman Bro's Rochester, N.Y." & "Julius Bien & Co, Lith, N.Y." The back states: "Crosman Brothers / Wholesale / Seed Merchants, / Growers & Importers, / Monroe Ave., Rochester, N.Y. / --- / Plant Only Crosman Bros. Garden Seeds. Thy are the best in the / World. Ask fo them and Like no others. / ---/ For Sale At This Store." ___In the late 1850s, Julius Bien was sought out by John James Audubon's youngest son, John Woodhouse Audubon, to produce a new full-size edition of The Birds of America, an edition to be sold via subscription. Bien was a specialist in chromolithography, a specialty he had learned in Germany. And is not considered a master of chromolithography. Though he was known taking on any jobs,regardless of the "level" they were always noted for their high quality, compared to others. ___Displays VERY nice. Extremely light tanning on the front, ding a the the top right corner, chipping at the lower left corner. The reverse has some tanning- appears to have been adhered in a scrap book.
