Description: The 1887 Melbourne Half Sovereign is extremely rare in this grade. Scarcer than the 1885 M half sovereign and undervalued. The mintage is thought to be only 9,000 which is among the lowest of the half sovereigns. Only 29 have been discovered with 7 in better than AU50 grade and only 2 in Mint State (MS61). While the 1885 M has 2 in Mint State (MS63 & 64 respectively) with 23 lower. The broken E in DEI is another interesting feature. This coin is a great addition to a rare coin collection.
