For your consideration: An 1889 ARCHAEOLOGICAL INSTITUTE OF AMERICA Athens School HANDWRITTEN Letterhead - RARE A fabulous piece of RARE letterhead from the Archaeological Institute of America, School of Classical Studies at Athens with a bright and vibrant printed header. The Archaeological Institute of America (AIA) "is a North American nonprofit organization devoted to the promotion of public interest in archaeology, and the preservation of archaeological sites. It has offices on the campus of Boston University and in New York City. The institute was founded in 1879, with Charles Eliot Norton as its first President until 1890. It was chartered in 1906 by the United States Congress. The institute currently has over 200,000 members and more than 100 local societies.[1] The American Journal of Archaeology, AJA, is the AIA's peer-reviewed academic journal that appears four times each year. The institute has also been publishing the magazine Archaeology since 1948." Originates from a large collection of documents (1880s) belonging to New York City Socialite and millionaire Mrs. Annie Carnochan Winters (Ludlow) of the prominent Ludlow family and descendant of war hero William Ludlow and inventor Robert Fulton. Letter is dated 1889 and addressed to 'My Dear Annie (Winters)' and discusses the birth of Harriet's child. From either a Ludlow or Livingston family member and initialed by him at the base. In Very Good overall condition; light wear and a gentle fold line; no rips or tears; toning in one are from where a piece of paper was attached; Letter opens up into a larger card; blank interior; light wear and remnants of paper can be noted inside.
