Description: For the baseball hobbyist... Complete 30-card *Commemorative* Set The Base-Ball Season of 1890 | The Leading Players Issued by TCMA in 1973 One of the earliest (and scarcest) commemorative baseball card sets issued by The Card Memorabilia Associates, Limited (TCMA) is this set, "The Base-Ball Season of 1890 | The Leading Players", issued nearly 50 years ago. Technically reprints of larger engravings which originally appeared in late 19th century copies of HARPER'S WEEKLY, since they were never issued as cards, we call them "commemoratives". (We should add that TCMA called them Reprints noting their year of publication, "1973".) As the set title states, included are cards of Leading Players of the 1890 Base Ball Season which numbered a full dozen men who would later be elected to the game's highest honor: Membership in the National Baseball Hall of Fame. (And others quite possibly also worthy of that honor.) The set has the added benefit of being some of the most affordable - yet vintage - cards of top 19th century stars. Members of the National Baseball Hall of Fame are denoted below in burgundy. One interesting aspect of this set is the inclusion of Players League stars. Eighteen ninety is the only year of operation by the Players League (noted as "Brotherhood" by Harper's Weekly). Thirty (30) unnumbered cards comprise the full set. Card size is 3-1/8" by 4-1/2". Cards of this rather unusual size will display well in standard 4-pocket sheets designed for smaller postcards (up to 3-1/2 by 5-1/2 inches) with full card coverage. Shipping includes eBay Shipcover or USPS insurance for this scarce set. Condition: Most are Excellent to Near-Mint with a couple Very Good-Plus or better - check the high-resolution scans. All cards have been scanned; these are the cards the buyer will receive.~ Players Included in Set | Arranged Alphabetically ~ Header Card ~ A. C.
