Description: Antique circa 1890s German silver with a gold wash compact, having detailed repousse work inside and out. The cover has a hand painted woodland scene of a woman reclining on a rock with her wicker market basket. In front of her is a young man playing a German bagpipe (Marksackpeife - which means marketplace pipes). Men played these pipes in marketplaces to earn money. Inside the compact is a mirror surrounded by beautiful repousse work, and a powder compartment. The 3 hallmarks are seen at the top of this compartment. The total German workmanship is amazing and the silver work is almost identical to other German compacts of this time periods that we have owned. There is a small amount of sticker adhesive on the lid from a previous owner. This is a rare German antique. We have carefully researched, examined and described this compact to the best of our ability. NO RETURNS. USPS Priority Mail US only. Reduced to SELL $600.00
