Description: 1880’s to 1890’s Bert Inks cabinet card. Published by Bonney and Wallace of South Bend. Bert was a Ligonier Indiana native. Bert and his brother attended Notre Dame University. He played class baseball there from what information leads to believe. Bert was a LHP for 6 different MLB teams 1891-92 and 1894-96. Bert coached at Wabash College in 1905. Wabash had a strong football program at this time. They beat Notre Dame in football in 1905. That was the Irish only home loss between 1899 through 1928. Wabash was an integrated football team at the time. There were at least two or three African American players to play football at Wabash between 1904-06. The baseball team was likely integrated also. Some of the biggest football upsets against the established football programs of the 1890’s into the early 1900’s were by integrated teams. Card is a little under 5 by 7 inch in size. Stains, toning and wear. Feel free to ask questions.
