A great find from a local New England estate! This scarce antique first edition is over 133 years old! 1st Edition. Ex-library. Includes the folding map. Nicely preserved overall! Original publisher cloth binding shows wear as pictured, including the remnants of a library catalog sticker pasted to the spine, a library catalog number written to the spine, rubbing and soiling to the boards and spine, wear to the joints, general wear around the extremities including moderate bumping the corners and spine extremes, and soiling and rubbing to the page edges. Volume is also just ever so slightly cocked. Otherwise this is an attractive antique volume! Sturdy and square overall! The gilt title lettering on the spine displays nicely from the shelf. Internally, this volume is in good shape overall. There is visible cracking to both the front and rear hinges, however both boards and all page groupings remain attached to the binding. The volume feels sturdy despite wear. This is an ex-library volume with bookplates and library markings visible to the front and rear endpapers and fly pages, as well as the title page and copyright page. Otherwise this volume is clean and free from signatures and inscriptions. The text block of this volume is in good shape as well. Pages show typical age-related toning as well as light soiling and foxing scattered throughout, and some general edge wear. Otherwise this volume is clean and perfectly readable throughout!
