Description: This is an 1894 letter from the Office of C.B. Perry, General Variety Store in Fitzwilliam Depot, New Hampshire. The next line of the letterhead reads, "Insurance Agent and Dealer in Everything" - this has got to be the best job title I've ever come across! It was also fairly accurate - I found mentions of Caleb B. Perry in town officers' reports from 1880's to 1908 he was paid for insurance on the new school and the town hall and for clothes for a dependent veteran and was listed as postmaster in 1887 and a justice of the peace in 1885! Fitzwilliam Depot is now a populated place within the town of Fitzwilliam in Cheshire county. The area has long been know for its granite quarries and wood products. The letter is toned, and the ink on the handwritten letter is faded and hard to read - Perry is just checking to see that the person who he'd sent to pay his bills had enough to cover them.
