Description: The History of the Island of Antigua: One of the Leeward Caribees in the West Indies, From the First Settlement in 1635 to the Present Time. By Vere Langford Oliver and published in London by Mitchell and Hughes. Three volumes. 1894, 316 pp, 497 pp, 406 pp, 10x15'', hardcover binding. In as-is condition. Covers and spines of each volume have age-related wear and toning that has caused discoloration and tearing. Ex-library from the Yale University library, with the information on the front inside covers and stamped onto the first pages of all three volumes. Pages have age-related toning and foxing. Hinges on the text block are worn, and the covers and spines of each volume are either very loose or entirely detached. Illustrations have toning but are otherwise in good condition and clear to see. Please see photographs and ask any questions prior to purchasing. Antigua is an island of the Lesser Antilles. Antigua and Barbuda became an independent state in 1981. It is one of the Leeward islands of the Caribbean, and is the more populous than Barbuda. This is a scarce three volume set on the history of the island, covering over two hundred years. Of only 150 copies printed, this set was number forty five. Any issues with hinges or binding due to age or wear could provide an excellent opportunity for rebinding and restoration, if desired.
