Description: This is the 1 May 1900 number (20th Anniversary Issue) of Chicago's semi-monthly Dial literary journal, a now rare number. I've never seen another copy. This one is in very nice condition. Long edited by the able Francis F. Browne. There's a single historical stamp and date to the top corner of the front wrapper. No other markings of any kind. This number is one of the most comprehensive turn of the century collections of pertinent information on American and European literature, publishers, libraries, periodicals, etc., that I've ever come across covering the journal's years in print from its founding in 1880 to 1900. You'll find this kind of literary detail in no other single place. A great snapshot of the literary world as it turns from the 19th to the 20th century. See photo #2 for the detailed Table of contents. 40 pages plus another 40+ pages of advertisements. Also note the long list of tributes in photo #2 from authors, artists, booksellers, and others offering their personal anniversary tributes to the magazine, including one in verse form, to be found nowhere else, by "America the Beautiful" author Katherine Lee Bates. See photo #3. See other photos for more example pages.
